About FU
Everything you wanted to know but were afraid to ask while Frank was standing right there.
Our Origin Story
Flourish University was established when Frank “The Tank” Ricard declared his home a university at 11:47pm on a Wednesday. By Thursday, 34 adult men enrolled. By Friday, we needed a bigger house.
Our Mission
To provide a second—or in Beanie’s case, third—chance at the college experience to adults who still have a lot to learn. Mostly about themselves. Sometimes about tax law.
Our Faculty
Our professors include former KFC regional managers, a guy who “read a lot in 2012,” and one actual PhD (Dr. Mitch Martin, Org. Law) who joined under duress but stayed for the free dinners.
Our Values
We believe in Commitment (showing up is 90% of the grade), Community (everyone’s invited, even Marissa), and Courage — specifically, the courage to streak in 40°F weather.
Campus Life
Our campus spans a 3-bedroom house, an attached garage (“The Research Annex”), a cul-de-sac, and Dave’s backyard (leased pending Dave’s agreement). The library is the guest room.
Our Motto
“In Vino Veritas Et Toga” — In Wine, Truth, and Togas. Selected by committee at 1:30am. Three members were asleep. Their silence was taken as enthusiastic consent.
Once it hits your lips, it's so good! That's what education is, people. Once knowledge hits your lips — once it truly hits your lips — it is SO GOOD.
— — Frank Ricard, Founding Dean & VP of Streaking Operations
